Port of Hamburg – 830 years!

In 1189, the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa issued a letter of exemption from the customs duties of all vessels traveling to Elbe from Hamburg to the North Sea. In this special jubilee, the noisy port offers an exciting show program on land and water on May 10-12, 2019. Tank ballet, search and rescue training, boat races, sailing regatta, cruises for children, festivals, attractions, museum exhibitions, live music.

Guests of the city were able to admire almost 300 ships - from ancient sailboats to modern military courts. Many of them were invited to aboard. This invitation was used by about 70 thousand people. Today, the port of Hamburg is the largest seaport in Germany and the second largest seaport in Europe and the ninth in the world. It stretches over 90 square kilometers, which is approximately equal to one tenth of the whole territory of the city. Every year more than 13 thousand vessels are moored here.
